The challenge

There is no clean energy without mining. The World Bank Group estimates that the production of minerals could increase by nearly 500% by 2050 to meet the growing demand for clean energy technologies.

This increased demand and few remaining surface-level mineral deposits are forcing the mining industry to search deeper underground. To move the world forward in an environmentally responsible way, the mining industry needs new discovery solutions to replace traditional drilling-intensive practices.

The solution

Ideon is a world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography, which provides x-ray-like imaging to those who explore beneath the Earth’s surface. The Ideon discovery platform integrates proprietary muon detectors, imaging systems, inversion technologies, and artificial intelligence to produce 3D density maps of features up to 1 km underground. It improves geologists’ subsurface field-of-view, reducing the need for expensive drilling activity while increasing discovery certainty. In short, it accelerates the world’s transition to low-impact mining.

Clients using our discovery platform can reduce exploration drilling by 10x and increase certainty of discovery to 95+%. Precision targeting at the beginning of the mine development process is the key to transforming overall system economics and avoiding extensive environmental impacts.
