Product Manager (open)

Term: Permanent, full-time

Posted: April 2023

Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image density anomalies deep beneath the Earth’s surface. Based in Richmond, BC, on the beautiful west coast of Canada, we are a world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography.

Our discovery platform integrates proprietary detector hardware, imaging systems and software, inversion technologies, and artificial intelligence to provide x-ray-like visibility up to 1 km underground. We capture, measure, and transform muon data into reliable geophysical surveys and 3D density maps that help geologists identify new mineral and metal deposits with precision and confidence. As a result, they drill less and discover more – reducing cost and risk, saving time, and minimizing environmental impact – ultimately accelerating the world’s transition to low-impact mining. Watch this short video to learn a bit more about what we do.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced geosciences Product Manager to create the product management processes, tools, and roadmaps to drive Ideon to the next level in its growth. You will be responsible for creating and managing processes to assess and prioritize business opportunities, articulate market needs, and build compelling product roadmaps. This role is a blend of strong geoscience expertise and product management leadership – it is a critical role in this rapidly scaling tech company.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will work with hardware, software, and geosciences leaders to define product release requirements based on market problems. You will work with business development to help define the go-to-market strategy by providing key product and market insights and work with customer experience to ensure we’re delivering a differentiated and value-added experience. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for Ideon’s product offering, working to support the sales channel and key customers.

As part of the role you will:

  • act as the “voice of the market”.
  • create product management processes and tools to support the business.
  • evaluate market segments to inform strategic direction and priorities.
  • create a three-year roadmap to illustrate our product vision and plan the future.
  • collaborate with other stakeholders on the creation of positioning for your products.
  • create user stories for current and future products based on the market’s problems.
  • drive buy-build-partner analysis, and where necessary, assess potential partner relationships for the product.
  • know why we are winning and losing in the market, and drive changes to our product and commercial processes and propositions to create improvement.
  • keep a finger on the pulse of our competition and develop strategies and tactics to reduce the threat.
  • recommend pricing strategies and tactics to meet market needs, drive revenue growth, and advance profitability goals.

Qualifications

You are a strategist who will translate the company’s high-level vision and goals into actionable tasks and defined capabilities. You will set product strategy, prioritize features, build consensus, manage decision making processes, and coordinate product schedules with your design and engineering teammates. You should be prepared to make decisions with incomplete information and be comfortable managing complexity. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy that includes a big-picture vision and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must also enjoy spending time in the market to understand market problems and drive innovative solutions for the broader market.

The ideal candidate will also bring the following:

  • 10+ years of marketing or product management experience.
  • 10+ years of geoscience experience in mining preferred.
  • Tech-savvy and passionate about building products.
  • Track record of using qualitative and quantitative data to prioritize and drive decision-making.
  • Curious and comfortable holding professional conversations with our target users.
  • Excellent people skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties.
  • Able to embrace a constructive team environment, where members communicate openly about how to improve systems and processes.
  • Willingness to learn, be adaptable, and take initiative in an ever-evolving environment.
  • A can-do attitude and creative solutioning mindset with great problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed communication skills in English at a fluent or professional level.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Legally able and currently documented to work full time hours in Canada.

We are also looking for the following:

  • A can-do attitude and creative solutioning mindset with great problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn, be adaptable, and take initiative in an ever-evolving environment.
  • Able to work well under pressure and to meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Able to uncover and present options for improvement and streamlining.
  • Solid teamwork skills; you’ll jump in to help where you can.
  • Great interpersonal skills; able to build relationships with colleagues, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Able to add something “extra” to our team beyond the work that you do (maybe you like to wow people with your home-baked goods, organize and play in post-work sports games, or educate us on hydroponic gardening)

  • Driven by industry, informed by science

We solve industry problems with scientific rigour: listening carefully, analyzing the data, and developing solutions that our clients – and the planet – cannot live without.

  • Inspired to create, wired to deliver

We’re imaginative, creating new possibilities and embracing the diversity of thought and experience within our team to move with urgency, learn from our failures, and execute masterfully.

  • Unified team, personally accountable

We have each other’s backs and operate with integrity, respect, and empathy. Success depends on leaving egos at the door, celebrating our differences, delivering promises, and owning the outcome together.

  • Boldly ambitious, exceptionally human

We think big and have the courage to blaze new trails. We’re in this business to win, but that doesn’t mean we compromise on doing the right thing for our people, our clients, and our world.
